What are Freight Classes?

 

Freight classes are simply standardized categories for goods as defined by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA).  The categories are used by carriers, warehouses and brokers to price shipments.  As a general rule the lower the freight class the lower the freight charge.
